Are esports a major part of the future of youth sports?

Esports has come a long way since the days of gymnasiums full of cathode ray tube (CRT) TVs and tripping over wires at LAN competitions. Crowds gather collectively online and in stadiums around the world to cheer for their favorite players, teams, and titles.

Esports events' peak viewership in millions

Some esports news publications have stated, “Esports viewership continues to rival that of traditional sporting events. It may even outpace sports audiences within the next decade. This has been a wake-up call for sports clubs to evolve with their younger audiences’ times and tastes.”

The Pew Research Center in 2018 noted that “90% of teens play video games, 97% of boys and 83% of girls” and a recent 2022 Bloomberg study suggests that 98% of teens would like to be a social media influencer. With this in mind, the future of youth sports is shaping up to include esports.

What would a high school letterman jacket esports patch look like?

“Rally Cry is dedicated to creating esports opportunities for players of all ages and skill levels. Our unique platform provides the industry-leading security and ease of use that players and parents have come to expect from traditional youth sports,” said Adam Rosen, Founder and CEO of Rally Cry. “We are thrilled to work with SportsEngine to share these competitions with their audiences.”
